Meta will lay off 10% of its workforce, ~8,000 employees, in May and cancel hiring for 6,000 open roles. Chief People Officer Janelle Gale said the cuts aim to improve efficiency and offset AI investments. Meta plans to spend up to $135B on AI infrastructure this year to build personal superintelligence for its 3.5B daily users. The company recently released a new AI model called Muse Spark and rolled out an employee activity tracking tool.
